Magical and Affectionate
I love this story. It's virtue is in its simplicity. Helena Davies writes with great affection and understanding, and the illustrations are charming.
The humour around Sam's efforts at living in the trees, and particularly his attempts at preparing food, is nicely understated, and all the more effective as a result. A wonderful read.
An uplifting tale
This is an enchanting tale about Sam who decides one day to leave his home to go and live in the trees. His mother is very matter of fact about the situation and helps him by leaving flapjacks and cakes at the bottom of the trees so that he does not go hungry. The illustrations of Sam's life in the trees by the author's sister are gorgeous; they portray Sam's delight in his ability to have adventures in the trees he climbs. This is a funny and heart warming tale as Sam has to make a choice between life in the trees or with his family at home. I loved it.
Beautiful mesmerising book
We were mesmerised by this book. The words captivate you, bringing nature to life. The kids (7+8) were wild about getting out into the woods after reading this. Lovely!
