A widower and his daughter begin antiquing to cope with bereavement, but their search leads them to a stunning discovery.
from The Collector:
"...Her free hand traced along the edges of brooch boxes and the canvases of lampshades and over the ornate wooden-grooved backing of a faded loveseat. Her fingers were like tiny antennae receiving the textures of a bygone time. The farther back in the store they went, the more they were submerged in the antique light of the place. At the back of the store was a stack of paintings leaning against the wall and Mr. Reeves let go of Marigold’s hand and sifted through them. He pulled out a small painting of a sunken tree on the edge of a lake and held it up.
“I like this one.” he said, showing it to her.
Marigold turned and looked.
“Do you?” he asked.
“Yes.”
He stowed it under his arm and brought it to checkout.
“A good choice.” the man said. “One of our regular customers left it in our possession when she passed. She was a good artist herself. Anyway, enjoy.”
