Enjoyable
I found myself picking this book up to read a little bit more whenever I had the opportunity. The story is nothing amazing or startling but somehow it worked well for me. I think the success of the first short chapter had me committed to wanting to know more.
It’s an undemanding and easy read. Because there is a limited number of suspects the culprit/culprits is/are eminently guessable. I thought I knew what had happened from quite early on but that didn’t spoil my enjoyment.
There are some chapters set in the past, a device which often annoys me in a book. Here primarily I found it added to my understanding of the character of the dead wife which added something important to the story.
The main negative for me was that stupidity often overrides common sense in the main character, Steph. However there would not have been a story without this!
