Publisher Description
My name is Leslie Joy (Les to my friends), and I was born on the 16th March 1923 in Bradford, Yorkshire. This is my true story of how at the age of 19 I joined the RAF, fell in love with a Tiger Moth, got my wings and flew as a Lancaster Bomber pilot in World War II, and survived – just!

From the heart
This may not be the longest or the best crafted book but it is certainly from the heart. It took me no more than 45 minutes to read it but it was fascinating. My only criticism is that I would have liked more detail.
great story
A gripping account of some of our WW2 hereos. I never knew how the RAF trained pilots. I'm not sure I would have been as brave as Mr Joy going on bombing missions across Germany.
Great account and a fascinating story
Memories are priceless
An excellent and easy read. My Dad served with the RAF, spent time in Canada training air crew but never got his wings. The book brought back memories of his exploits. The thing that he only mentioned once was the abject terror being in a troop ship returning to England and hearing the thump of a torpedo hitting a nearby ship.
He was billeted with a family who introduced him to strange foods, like sweet potatoes, and taught him to skate on ice with a fair level of competency.
