The Double

The Double centres on a government clerk who repeatedly encounters someone his exact double in appearance, yet confident, aggressive, and extroverted, the polar opposite of the toadying protagonist. Golyadkin’s St Petersburg becomes a hall of mirrors for a mind losing its hold. Dostoyevsky’s early novella is a doppelganger tale of exquisite, comic dread.

This special edition has been created with accessibility in mind. It features a fully adjustable coloured overlay system designed to support readers with Irlen Syndrome, dyslexia, or visual stress. By reducing visual strain and allowing each reader to customise their experience, this edition makes Dostoyevsky’s doppelganger narrative more comfortable and enjoyable to read.
