Great heroine
This is another Emily Larkin book that I would rate as 4.5 stars - she had set the standard very high with some of her other books. I really loved the heroine Kate, she loves James enough that she wants him to have a wife that he loves. At the start of the book James does not come across well, he is grieving and faced the horror of war so I will forgive him but his attitude to Kate and women is poor. James’s gradual change as he compares various potential brides to Kate works well and the potential brides work so well that I want to know all their stories. I liked the concept of the list of requirements for a bride growing longer with every potential bride he meets. Secondary characters such as Kate’s brother and aunt are also well drawn.
