Ancient Horrors!
A compendium of short stories from the pen of notable fantasy horror writer, Robert Bloch. Bloch wrote Psycho, yes that Psycho, and these stories are infused with the same gothic sensibility. Many of the stories take place in Egypt, that land of ancient myths and curses, as various greedy protagonists meet a sticky end disturbing dusty tombs in underground chambers. But my favourite story was the last, “Waxworks”, a tale of witchcraft and spellbinding hypnosis that Amicus culled almost verbatim for their 1971 portmanteau horror classic, “The House that Dripped Blood.” Sweet dreams!
