The Foggiest Notion

The railway track that suddenly appears across the front of his London house is the first sign for Colin Holly, an emotionally-repressed former maths teacher, that something is wrong. A twenty-foot boy celebrating his third birthday soon provides another. He also discovers that a group of lethal creatures is racing towards him at breakneck speed, intent on eliminating the threat they consider him to be.

It turns out that the events in this world are being dictated by a cryptic puzzle. He learns this from Kia, the sixteen-year-old head of the family of solving specialists who appear to be living in his house. Thirty clues will have to be solved before midnight or the puzzle’s catastrophic creations will become permanent. As these include the terminal plans for the team of solvers themselves, devised by a malevolent, wispy character known as The Culprit, there’s not a moment to lose.

So Holly has a matter of hours to overcome his own personal demons as well as the obstacles thrown at him by the puzzle – characters, locations and situations that range from humorous to life-threatening. The clock is ticking to save himself, the team and this entire world.
