When Loveda Brown arrives in the tiny mountainside town of Idyllwild, California, as yet the Wild West of 1912, she is running from her husband. But when a body turns up the next day, she realizes she might have worse things following her… that cold, clenched fist holds something that forces Loveda to stay in Idyllwild and use all of her wits to stop another murder from happening. Probably her own.

Engaging historical mystery
This book introduces Loveda Brown and the IdyllWild Series, although it is worth reading the prequels for the backstory. Our heroine is on her way to relatives, when she stops in the Wild West town of the 1900s and gets entangled in a murder investigation. The depiction of the era feels realistic, while the storyline mixes fact and fiction, with interesting characters and a twisting storyline, incorporating adventure and humour. Loveda is a gutsy heroine and is clearly destined for more adventures.
