About the author
Tarek Malouf was born in London and studied at London and Los Angeles universities, where he discovered American desserts. After working for ABC News in the UK and enjoying American desserts on trips to the USA, he decided to set up The Hummingbird Bakery on Portobello Road. The Bakery's home-cooked cupcakes, pies, brownies and other high-quality American desserts were a huge success and the Bakery now has branches in South Kensington and Soho. Fabulous!
This is by far the best cake book I have ever used! Everything I have made so far has been delicious. I have read mixed reviews and all I can say is forget everything you have been taught regarding cake making and follow the recipe to the letter. Some amounts and techniques seem a little bizarre but don't worry! I don't like a huge amount of frosting on the top of my cupcakes so just half the ingredients and I still have ample. The only improvement I would suggest to the publishers is that they have an index so that you can easily find the recipes you're after rather than flicking through the whole book.

Brilliant book, lots of different and interesting recipes that I would never have thought of, mixed with your basic every-day recipes. Easy to follow instructions and haven't had a bad result yet!
