Brilliant Follow Up - Bring On Number 3!!
I enjoyed Brown's first book immensely, and this follow up was even better. As with the first book I found it a little slow at the beginning, but then, as with the first, things pick up speed and things really get going. Brown has obviously done a lot of research for these books and it shows, with believable backgrounds setting the scene for what develops into a real roller coaster ride. There are so many historical elements in these books, from the fantastic opening chapter in the roman gladiator's arena, to the clashing religions, to the warring factions - and it's all completely believable. The action is really well written, and unlike so many contemporary offerings (mainly on tv or in films) it seems authentic - guys who get smacked in the head with a club, only get hit once; an arrow in the chest kills someone. Refreshingly realistic! The story is good, the characters are genuine and the interaction between them is also enjoyable. To sum up - a great story, and developing characters - I'm really looking forward to the third in the series!
