APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
It’s always worth waiting for a new Thursday Murder Club book, and The Impossible Fortune doesn’t disappoint. The intricate plotting and whodunnit hallmarks that have made the series a multi-million-selling success are all present. It’s a puzzle and a caper, and it shows why author Richard Osman was just the person to revive the idea of cosy crime. But The Impossible Fortune is more than that. It’s the fifth book in the series and many long-time readers have developed a huge fondness for Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron. It’s a joy to be reunited with the club and to check in on their lives. Former secret service operative Elizabeth is still deep in grief, and her loss is handled deftly and with sympathy. Ron and Ibrahim each have a well-crafted subplot, and Joyce is preoccupied with plans for her daughter’s wedding. The plot kicks off when the best man goes missing. As ever, one of The Thursday Murder Club’s chief charms is to remind us that life is long and storied, and that our later years may be the most dramatic and satisfying ones we have.

Another Treat
First one family to get the book , but second to finish, I just cannot read as fast as my wife.
Really good book with several twists that I did not see coming but maybe not as gripping as earlier episodes. 😎
Most confusing.
I was looking forwards to reading this book but have been disappointed.
The author presumes that I remember his characters intimately and that his readers need no reintroduction to the personalities of his books.
Frankly also the story line is a mess. Ah well.
I read a great deal and do not remember who is who and how people relate to each other. Likewise if this book was the first one that I were to read in the series I would find the lack of ‘introduction’ to the characters highly confusing.
I have the feeling that to appreciate this book I need to go back to previous books of the series in order to sort out in my own head who everyone is and to be reminded of their personalities. I do not think that it is good authorship to presume that a reader recalls all the personalities as if they were members, for example, of his or her family.
So no, Mr. Osman, whilst I admire your talent I think perhaps you presume too much to assume that a reader can dive into this book without having a more gentle reintroduction to those in the book.
Sorry.
Typical Osman charm shines through with the main characters getting closer.
Witty intriguing plots leave you on the edge of your seats.
