Beautiful, sad, uplifting and hopeful
This book has some very serious subject matter beautifully woven through a story of life, love, and loss.
I don’t know if it’s the fact that I originate from a Scottish island, but I really understood this book, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The author captured the sense of belonging that you have in that type of community. That it’s not just the people who make it, as they can ebb and flow, but the island itself is actually the main character.
Two wee mistakes to merit the loss of a star in the rating - Scottish schools return in August after the summer holidays, not September. And primary schools are run by the local council, not a board of governors. PTA’s (parent teacher association) do a lot though, especially fundraising.
