APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
The University of Cambridge provides the hothouse setting for a twisty thriller that sees former student Mariana fighting to pin down a killer on campus. Is it a professor who holds particular sway over women, or is the truth more complicated? Following up his hugely popular debut The Silent Patient, author Alex Michaelides doubles down on his penchant for dramatic twists. But for all the unexpected turns here, the novel remains grounded by familiar themes from both Greek tragedy and more contemporary literature like The Secret History. And in professor Edward Fosca, he has created a captivating suspect to keep Mariana—and readers—questioning themselves at every step.

BRILLIANT PIECE OF ART
Alex Michealides is one of the most brillaint authors I have gotten the privilege to read their work. After reading The Silent Patient, his debut, I was amazed by his style of writing, by his ability to grip the reader just by a sentence and the plot twist was phenomenal. Seeing he published another book, I was quick to purchase it and start reading. I was intrigued by the way I got hooked. Finished this book in 2 days. The most surprising and unique aspect of reading The Maidens was the fact that characters from The Silent Patient had a role as well. All I can say is Alex, you have a gift! I recommend this book and The Silent Patient to everyone. Thank me later.

Terrific book
It’s hard to catch lightning in a bottle twice…
The Silent Patient, was an excellent story and it’s clear the Maidens is an attempt to capture elements that led to the same success. While parts are well written, the pacing is poor, the characters are unlikable and we are led to a crescendo that is ultimately just unbelievable and feels like a twist tacked on for the sake of it. If you have read it’s predecessor first and are expecting anything near that level, you will feel disappointed IMO.
