‘The Missing has a delicious sense of foreboding from the first page, luring us into the heart of a family with terrible secrets and making us wait, with pounding hearts for the final, agonizing twist. Loved it’
Fiona Barton, Author of THE WIDOW

You love your family. They make you feel safe. You trust them.

But should you…?

‘A twisty-turny psychological thriller … Well-written, pacy and gripping’ Fabulous

When fifteen-year-old Billy Wilkinson goes missing in the middle of the night, his mother, Claire, blames herself. She's not the only one. There isn't a single member of Billy's family that doesn't feel guilty. But the Wilkinsons are so used to keeping secrets from one another that it isn't until six months later, after an appeal for information goes horribly wrong, that the truth begins to surface.

Claire is sure of two things – that Billy is still alive and that her friends and family had nothing to do with his disappearance.

A mother's instinct is never wrong. Or is it?

Sometimes those closest to us are the ones with the most to hide…

Couldn't put this book down. Read it in two days!

This book is extremely repetitive. 85% of it is either the main character rehashing things and repeating conversations and eventualities in her head “what if this” “what if that” sort of back and forth. Conversations between characters are lengthy and full of useless dialogue.

It feels like the writer was given a certain amount of word count to reach and they just needed to fill the pages. Long painful conversations that don’t lead to anything. The whole book could easily be condensed in half.

Nearly 250 pages in and hardly anything has happened, no plot development, just this woman struggling with her ability to cope with a tragedy.

If you want a psychological thriller, this isn’t it. If you want to read about a woman suffering from mental health and family problems, then maybe give it a shot.

Overall a very frustrating read.

I was hooked from the start

Fifteen-year-old Billy has been missing for six months, and when a new TV appeal goes wrong, his mother Claire's life starts unravelling even more. Was a family member involved in Billy's disappearance? Was he taken by a child molester? Has he just run away to get attention? As Claire tries to find the answers, her amnesic episodes generate even more questions. C. L. Taylor keeps you guessing to the very end.

Brilliantly written. A total page-turner. Couldn't put it down.
