Publisher Description
Bast knows how to bargain. The give-and-take of a negotiation is as familiar to him as the in-and-out of breathing; to watch him trade is to watch an artist at work. But even a master's brush can slip. When he accepts a gift, taking something for nothing, Bast's whole world is knocked askew, for he knows how to bargain - but not how to owe.
From dawn to midnight over the course of a single day, follow the Kingkiller Chronicle's most charming fae as he schemes and sneaks, dancing into trouble and back out again with uncanny grace.
The Narrow Road Between Desires is Bast's story. In it he traces the old ways of making and breaking, following his heart even when doing so goes against his better judgement.
After all, what good is caution if it keeps him from danger and delight?
Customer Reviews
Potentially the best book ever written
I’m not even halfway through the first page of this book but I’m struggling to concentrate due to my annoyance at the only other review.
Fantasy books are a huge part of my life, as I’m sure they are for most of you. I am the kind of reader that if I finish a book at 4am I will start another and read at least a chapter before going to sleep. I couldn’t even begin to imagine how many books I’ve read in the three decades since first experiencing The Hobbit and falling in love with the genre. Of all of the books I have ever read The Name of the Wind stands head and shoulders above the rest. I am as desperate to read The Doors of Stone as anyone but the sheer disrespect in the previous review is disgusting!
As a creative myself I know that finishing a project that you have poured so much of yourself into takes an almost inhuman amount of willpower. I have fallen at the last hurdle more than once and have also needed a painful kick up the backside from people who care about my sanity on many other occasions. I don’t envy Patrick the task he’s currently facing. The longer the situation goes on, the more the pressure mounts and the bigger the backlash if it’s not completed to the standard your fans expect.
In the foreword for this book Patrick clearly explains himself and I care about the characters and the world that he’s created enough that I’m going to read it regardless. Enjoy this book, or don’t - it’s not for anyone else to tell you what to think - but at least show the man the respect he deserves for what he’s given us so far.
Awful
Waste of time and money. All we want is The Doors of Stone, not this trash
