PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Discerning use of full-page spreads and decorative border art allays Maysen's substantial text in this glowing interpretation. De Marcken's detail-rich watercolors are marked by a vibrant palette (the Nutcracker wears purple and gold, Marie a pink sash-tied dress), while the attention paid to the mechanisms of toys and to dolls' facial expressions further emphasizes the fantastical nature of the story. This is a loyal and energetic version, best for read-aloud in multiple sittings, given the length of the text. Ages 4 8.

Enchanting
This story is so beautiful. Full of Winter and Christmas.
Best Christmas book
Way before I started reading this book, I watched many versions of the nutcracker from the 1990 animated version to the barbie movie and watching royal ballet 2012 recorded version on NOWTV but most versions contain a little detail from the book. But when I started reading this book last week and finished it today 24/12/14 I was mesmerised from chapter to the last chapter. My favorite parts were the story when Maria's godfather tells her the story of how the nutcracker came to be and the last part when Maria finally meets her godfather's nephew who she figured out that he's the nutcracker. This book will warm your hearts forever.
This book has now become my top favorite Christmas book of all time, and I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a Christmas story other the Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol.
