Wouldn't it be great if there was an easy way to learn all the scales, arpeggios and chords required to play the guitar? Now there is!
There are countless books available that show great ideas of what to do with scales, chords and arpeggios, but how do you learn them in the first place? First written in 2002, 'The Paul Hill Guitar Theory and Technique Book' has been completely rewritten to make it even easier to master all these elements.
A book will generally show a scale, arpeggio or chord diagram and expect you to remember it. Books are available with over 100000 chords included and there are scale books containing hundreds of scale patterns. How on Earth does a student begin remembering all this information?
'The Paul Hill Guitar Theory and Technique Book' uses techniques that Paul has refined over many years to allow the student to understand the guitar fingerboard and generate patterns for themselves. If a scale or chord is not used regularly, it will be forgotten. By understanding how to generate patterns, a student can recall any scale or chord, even if it has not been used for a long time.
Parrot fashioned learning leads to inconsistent knowledge. Understanding how to generate patterns leads to total understanding.
As an example of how these techniques work, Paul can teach a room full of students all modes of the major scale, starting from any string, in any key, in as little as 15 minutes! Once the ideas have been understood, all other scales can be learnt by modifying these initial patterns.
'The Paul Hill Guitar Theory and Technique Book' shows:
How to generate any scale you will ever need from the major scale and its modes to more unusual scales such as the In Sen scale and harmonic major scale, played anywhere on the fingerboard.
A simple idea to generate fingerings for all possible arpeggios within a scale.
Technique examples to generate a vast array of musical ideas.
How to generate hundreds of chords from one basic shape.
Chord substitution principals.
How to analyse chord progressions.
...and many more ideas to help master the guitar fingerboard!
So what are you waiting for? There is no escaping the fact that every guitarist needs to learn scales, arpeggios and chords, and how to use them.
Save years of learning patterns parrot fashioned and begin to master your guitar fingerboard today!
Amazing, Wonderful book
This book gives you a great understanding of how the guitar's chords and scales are built up. It also gives a great explanation on how to do and make anything on the guitar.
Brilliantly constructed tutorial
Knowing what note to play is what this book is all about claims the author and it is a well justified claim too. The pattern of learning is both logical and memorable, but best of all it employs a simplicity that sets it apart and ties together the business of learning the fretboard, scales and chord construction in a concise and exceptionally useable way. All the essentials are here, and the promise of much more too...if the ultimate objective is to train your ears to hear the notes and changes in your music, this book gives you the means to achieve. Definitely five stars.
The only book you need.
Firstly I have purchased many books to help me understand guitar theory and this is by far the BEST student friendly theory book out there. I usually struggle with other books as they often assume you already have some kind of musical knowledge.
This book WILL simplify everything and reduce the time it takes you to learn and understand scales, chords and arpeggios. It teaches you a completely different way of thinking and will have you playing those tricky licks you thought you'd never play in no time. But with this book you will understand how it works and be able to implement that knowledge into your own music.
So if you are looking for a that one key thing to help you progress as a musician then this book is it. It will significantly reduce the time it takes you to learn and understand anything on the guitar. I really can't rate this book highly enough and predict it will soon be a top seller.
