Publisher Description

The science delusion is the belief that science already understands the nature of reality. The fundamental questions are answered, leaving only the details to be filled in. In this book, Dr Rupert Sheldrake, one of the world's most innovative scientists, shows that science is being constricted by assumptions that have hardened into dogmas. The sciences would be better off without them: freer, more interesting, and more fun. According to the dogmas of science, all reality is material or physical. The world is a machine, made up of dead matter. Nature is purposeless. Consciousness is nothing but the physical activity of the brain. Free will is an illusion. God exists only as an idea in human minds, imprisoned within our skulls. But should science be a belief-system, or a method of enquiry? Sheldrake shows that the materialist ideology is moribund; under its sway, increasingly expensive research is reaping diminishing returns. In the skeptical spirit of true science, Sheldrake turns the ten fundamental dogmas of materialism into exciting questions, and shows how all of them open up startling new possibilities. The Science Delusion will radically change your view of what is possible. and give you new hope for the world.

The science delusion

To suggest that science has explained everything is ignorant and ridiculous. To suggest that because science has not explained everything, that a supernatural power is responsible, is absurd.

I bet none of the 40 1 star reviews actually bought and read the book

I haven't read it either, however I agree with and understand the premise and what the author is getting at from the synopsis.

The understanding of this book is correct. A purely naturalistic world view leads to a neutering of greater truths and levels of reality and life. Many scientists have become brainwashed into prideful assumptions and conclusions that there can be no creator God or spiritual reality, simply because sciences instruments cannot quantify and detect these things.
In reality naturalism cannot explain the basic questions of origin, such as how the universe was formed into existence, how a cell was formed into existence, how RNA and DNA could form into existence, or how a basic living cell could start to mutate systems, organs and limbs by natural selection and mutation. None of these basic essential truths can be observed or explained by naturalism, and yet the youth of the modern secular nations of the world are being taught to believe these things just happened by themselves, even though there is no evidence they did or could.
Scientists need to consider that naturalism alone cannot hold all the answers and in fact holds none of the answer for origin.
The majesty of nature and the universe implies a superconscious designer and artist at the inception and helm.
It is really unreasonable and irrational to conclude all of this order, beauty and awareness just happens to be or came from a cosmic accident from nothing.
