The Snow Queen's Collie

Jennet's sister, Julia, gives her vintage painting, Ada's Litter, for Christmas, unaware that this painting will soon begin to exhibit strange qualities, bringing bad luck to those who own it. 

Another Christmas present, this one unexpected, is the white collie puppy Jennet discovers on her porch. As she adds the foundling to her household, she learns that a collie breeder's show prospect has gone missing.
