Publisher Description

The number one bestselling memoir of one of New Labour’s three founding architects, now with a revealing new chapter updating this e-book edition.

Peter Mandelson is one of the most influential politicians of modern times. ‘The Third Man’ is his story – of a life played out in the backroom and then on the frontline of the Labour Party during its unprecedented three terms in government.

Much of the book is devoted to the defining political relationships of Peter Mandelson’s life – with Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Charting what he terms the ‘soap-opera’ years of the Labour government, his book continues to ruffle feathers with an updated preface bringing the story up to the tempestuous present.

About the author

At the age of thirty-two Peter Mandelson became Labour’s Director of Campaigns and Communications, and was elected as MP for Hartlepool in 1992, serving in government as Minister without Portfolio, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, and Lord President of the Council. He remains in Parliament as a member of the House of Lords.

The Third Man by Peter Mandelson

Is it mischief that this book has been listed by you among the fiction titles? Price might be justifiable for an unabridged audio version - possibly for an enhanced version similar to Stephen Fry's latest offering - but certainly not for this version.

A great read and surprisingly well written

This is a great way to find out the real story of how the Labour party was taken from the 1980s doldrums of unelectability to a three term winning machine. Don't listen to the miserable grumblings for those with an axe to grind. Mandelson might be the ultimate Marmite politician but for sure he will help you understand the Labour party today and the complex set of relationships that dictated the 13 years of politics in the UK.

What a surprise this book was

Never having been a fan of Mandleson,or new labour, but nevertheless intrigued by the politics and reputation of the man. I acquired this book as an audio file which was read by the man himself. I was impressed with the candour, and enjoyed the content.very easy to remember the press version of events to which he refers. There may have been poetic licence but the full flavour of the TB GB discord was obvious. I have changed my opinion of the author. I wonder if New Labour lost a potentially dynamic leader in him. And would say to him if asked, -great book, enjoyed it lots, write another please!
