As we have endured a recent world pandemic this book came about with me wondering how they dealt with a similar situation in the 17th century.

Charles I is executed with the words ‘I go from a corruptible to an incorruptible crown, where no disturbance can be.’ 

His son Charles II eventually replaces him as King. Royalist army doctor Sir Thomas Huck returns to Cornwall from exile, facially scarred from the Civil War, but still with desire for Iben Hartmann, the tombstone maker’s daughter. During this turbulent time what has happened to free-spirited Iben that makes her love one minute and despise the next? It is a time of plague and upheaval following Cromwell’s Puritan regime. A story set in a beautiful location.
