Erykah Macdonald has a nice life, the kind you're supposed to want. But on her twentieth wedding anniversary, she's about to cross a line.
Several hundred miles away in the shallow waters of a Hebridean island, a body is found and it's clear this is no accidental death.
Erykah has to make an irreversible choice - she's used to living with secrets but there are far worse secrets about to emerge. From a morgue in the Highlands to the powerplays in Westminster, a net is tightening. And those that find themselves caught will kill to get out.
Erykah must decide what she's capable of. She should be scared - but sometimes, crossing the line is the first step to freedom...

The Turning Tide is a thoroughly entertaining thriller. Like a rock rolling down a hill it take a wee while to get going;characters have to be introduced and their situations developed. It soon picks up pace and the plots momentum kept me reading faster and faster.
As a pedantic Fifer I was a little surprised to see our largest distillery's name become a down at heel town in the North West of Scotland but I would thoroughly recommend this book.
It was particularly good to read a thriller where the action was almost all driven by women.
I believe this is Dr Magnanti's first thriller but I really hope it isn't her last. And if E doesn't find a life of quiet academic contemplation , I look forward to reading about the next chapter of mayhem she is plunged into.
