The undivided night

In ten years since the Armistice, Detective Inspector Nickolson has only had to deal with the deaths of strangers; until the body of a man he knew is found fallen from the cliffs of Shipden golf links. The dead man’s friends are singularly reluctant to reveal what they know, whilst Nickolson’s own memories confuse more than they clarify.

The unsettled scandal-wracked late summer of 1928, with newspapers full of police malpractice and literary outrage, is no time to be asking impertinent questions of respectable artists and publishers, but ask he must in impartial service of the law. His latest case will reunite him with old acquaintances, introduce him to the disconcerting Miss Cranford, and make him reconsider the nature of justice.
