The Unmapped

A missing village. A murdered mother. A map someone tried to erase.

When forensic cartographer Iris Calder learns that the man who raised her has died, she expects grief. She does not expect the letter he left behind. Because hidden inside is a devastating truth: You are not my biological daughter.

Thirty years earlier, Iris was found alone in a Scottish forest — wrapped in a grey wool coat, clutching a hand-drawn map to a village that officially does not exist. The village is called Kindail. No records exist. No history remains. And according to every official map of Scotland, it was never there.

But when Iris begins investigating, she uncovers something impossible: a vanished community, children erased from public records, a powerful family that controlled generations of disappearances, and evidence that her biological mother was murdered trying to help people escape.

Now Iris must follow the hidden trail her mother left behind before the same people who buried the truth discover something they thought impossible: the child who survived is still alive. And she finally knows how to read the map.

Perfect for fans of Tana French, Kate Morton, Susanna Clarke, Lucy Foley, and atmospheric literary thrillers filled with buried secrets, forgotten places, dark family conspiracies, and devastating twists, The Unmapped is a haunting mystery about identity, memory, hidden histories, and the dangerous power of erased truths.

Some places disappear. Some are hidden. And some are erased on purpose.
