Creepy and Compelling! I loved it!
After reading Sleep Tight by C S Green and loving it, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy of the second book in this fantastic series – The Whisper House. Was it as good as the first book? Yes! Was it even spookier than the first book? Definitely! Will you need to sleep with the lights on? Absolutely!
DC Rose Gifford is sent to investigate some bizarre goings-on at a property, could it be nightmare neighbours or is something more supernatural going on? 12-year-old Gregory insists there is some paranormal activity in his home, the poor boy has been hearing whispers in the walls and has even been hurt physically. His parents don’t believe him, although I think his mum does but is scared to admit it. Thank heavens for Gregory that Rose is not a sceptic and with her own hidden talent of seeing the dead, she is the perfect person to find out what is happening in his house and why!
Rose Gifford is one of my favourite book characters ever. I wish this was already a ten-book series that I’d just come across so I could binge-read the lot! Instead, I must wait eagerly for the next instalment and with the way this book ended I can tell you I’m more excited for the next book than I am for Christmas! (Believe me, I love Christmas!) We have got to know more about Rose and her backstory in this book and I love how that runs alongside the main part of the story. She is such a likeable character, and when I am reading, I feel like I am her and seeing everything through her eyes! I am rooting for her in every aspect, her work life, her home life and even her love life – which definitely needs some work, but I’m positive we will see something develop for her in the future. I am also looking forward to her personal story playing out more as we read through the series.
My favourite thing about this book is how chilling it is! Many authors don’t go quite dark enough in their books, possibly for fear that the readers won’t like it. C S Green does not hold back in this book, and I am so glad because it makes the story so different from anything I’ve read and it had me gripped and spooked throughout. The twists and turns along the way were fabulous, and I did not see any of them coming.
This book is perfectly paced, expertly written and spine-tingly good! After reading both books in this series I have realised I am definitely a fan of stories that feature the unexplained. Do you believe in ghosts? I do, and this kind of story has my imagination working overtime!
Admittedly this book is not one for the faint-hearted, but it is one I highly recommend to anyone who loves a good thriller and doesn’t mind getting a bit spooked!
