APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
It sounds like a well-trodden literary path: a jilted, jealous wife falls apart as she obsesses over her ex-husband’s new and predictably youthful fiancée. But Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have no business with cliché here. They spring clever surprises on every other page, as Vanessa, her younger model Nellie and husband Richard quickly reveal themselves to be multi-dimensional, deliciously untrustworthy characters very different to how we initially suspect. And a tip: don’t stop reading before the epilogue.
Hendricks, who spent more than 20 years as a book editor, joins forces with Pekkanen (The Best of Us) to create a jaw-dropping psychological thriller. Unreliable narrator Vanessa Thompson is obsessed with her ex-husband's fianc e and on the verge of becoming unhinged. She gave up everything to have a fairy tale life in Westchester with too-good-to-be-true hedge fund manager Richard. After a series of failed fertility treatments, their marriage unraveled, and Richard leaves her for a younger woman. Hendricks and Pekkanen chronicle a marriage gone wrong through the alternating accounts of the shattered Vanessa and a vibrant, younger woman named Nellie. This is not another eye-rolling story about the jealous ex-wife stalking her replacement, as readers will discover as Vanessa's motivations are revealed. Unforgettable twists lead to shocking revelations all the way through the epilogue. 250,000-copy announced first printing.
I enjoyed this book a lot I was a bit unsure of where it was going in places but reading on it kept getting better and coming together nicely. I would definitely recommend
Whatever the PR reviews say - ignore. It’s not a “psychological thriller” it’s just a slow read & poorly written with a boring twist at the end. Not even worth 99p!
Twists and turns!
It’s quite a long read, but there are so many twists that it keeps you guessing for ages. A really good read!
