PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Broday's dramatic third Men of Legend romance (after The Heart of a Texas Cowboy) centers on Luke Weston, a half-Spanish outlaw on the 19th-century Texas frontier. Luke, who has been falsely accused of killing a federal judge, wants to clear his name, which means finding the real killer. But rescuing an amnesiac woman from a posse of thugs complicates his search. As Josie Morgan tries to regain her memory and they fall prey to their strong mutual attraction, the two travel all over seeking their answers. Luke's insistence that he is unworthy of love and unable to settle down comes across as a sincere, as do his fierce protection of the weak and powerful anger toward abusers. The pair encounter boastful bounty hunters and an abused little boy, navigate Luke's strained relationship with his father and half-brothers, and use Josie's impressive acting abilities and Luke's steely gunslinging to survive battles. This densely plotted historical continues Broday's tradition of well-realized, emotionally rich novels.
