FOR JACK RYAN, THE GREATEST THREAT LURKS BENEATH THE WAVES . . . AGAIN.
US intelligence is reporting turmoil in the Russian navy. Their deadliest submarine, the Belgorod, has unexpectedly launched. Who authorised the departure? What mission is it on? And, most disturbing of all, what weapons do the giant doors on the sub's bow hide?
It's been four decades since a similar incident with the Soviet sub, Red October, ended happily, thanks to a young CIA analyst named Jack Ryan.
Now, President Jack Ryan finds himself with fleets of ships, squadrons of jets, and teams of SEALs at his command, but what he doesn't have is insight into the plans of the Belgorod's commander. It falls to a younger generation of Ryans to do the dangerous work that will reveal that information.
But there's always a price to be paid. When the final moments tick away, will Jack Ryan have to choose between the safety of his country and the safety of his child?

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Tom Clancy Act of Defiance is a riveting continuation of the Jack Ryan series and a clever nod to Clancy's debut masterpiece, The Hunt for Red October. The US is on high alert when the Russian special-purpose submarine K-329 Belgorod is launched discreetly after a retrofit. Suspicions mount for President Jack Ryan when he learns that the Belgorod is skippered by the son of the Red October's lead engineer. The mission to track down the sub falls to his daughter, Intelligence Analyst Lt. Katie Ryan, who is deployed aboard the USS Ford in the Atlantic Ocean. This is the first Jack Ryan series book by Brian Andrews and Jeffrey Wilson, and their naval backgrounds lend it an unmistakable authenticity. They’ve also included the kind of technical details that Clancy fans expect and will love. Katie Ryan emerges as a formidable protagonist, carving out her own legacy of intelligence and courage, and underscoring the enduring appeal of the series.

Not quite Red October…
A modern twist on Tom Clancy’s Red October - which is my go to book and film when I’ve run out of material. Really enjoyed the book and look forward to see how the younger Ryan proceeds.
Act of defiance
A good read. Recently I’ve struggled with the series emphasis on technical stuff at the expense of following the characters. This episode goes back to Tom Clancys era. The technology is there but in context with the story. More of the same please.
