Engrossing story, with some unfortunate 1940’s sexist and racist attitudes
I love Neville Shute books. His writing is immediately engaging and the stories are told in a sophisticated manner, with intricate research, that teaches the reader about engineering and ships and Tahiti while being swept along with a story about a man who is humble and in straightened financial circumstances but conquers his life dilemmas in an inspiring manner…a great read, a book I could not put down.
