An engineer and sailors dream novel
I work away at sea, I found this recommended by a podcast. The book is wonderful heart warming and tear jerking. Beautifully and intricately written and I never wanted his adventure to end but willed him home to Janice and Katie with every page.
Engrossing story, with some unfortunate 1940’s sexist and racist attitudes
I love Neville Shute books. His writing is immediately engaging and the stories are told in a sophisticated manner, with intricate research, that teaches the reader about engineering and ships and Tahiti while being swept along with a story about a man who is humble and in straightened financial circumstances but conquers his life dilemmas in an inspiring manner…a great read, a book I could not put down.
