---
An eye-opening investigation into the science, economics, history and production of ultra-processed food.
It's not you, it's the food.
We have entered a new 'age of eating' where most of our calories come from an entirely novel set of substances called Ultra-Processed Food, food which is industrially processed and designed and marketed to be addictive. But do we really know what it's doing to our bodies?
Join Chris in his travels through the world of food science and a UPF diet to discover what's really going on. Find out why exercise and willpower can't save us, and what UPF is really doing to our bodies, our health, our weight, and the planet (hint: nothing good).
For too long we've been told we just need to make different choices, when really we're living in a food environment that makes it nigh-on impossible. So this is a book about our rights. The right to know what we eat and what it does to our bodies and the right to good, affordable food.
Number 1 Sunday Times bestseller, August 2023
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Behold, a book that might genuinely impact how and what you eat. We’ve all been (temporarily) shocked by horrifying things we’ve read about the unhealthier end of our diets, but here Chris van Tulleken—one of the BBC’s lead science presenters and an infections diseases doctor at London's Hospital for Tropical Diseases—lays out a highly persuasive case for why it’s time to truly cut out “ultra-processed” food. True to his broadcasting style, van Tulleken isn’t preachy—he’s instead engaging, darkly funny and quietly furious that we’ve become so hooked on this addictive and potentially dangerous food that’s also harming our planet. You’ll come away armed with the knowledge and passion to make better choices about what we do to our bodies.

Wow
Very interesting, made a bit paranoid though… and would like to know more as what to look out for.
Great read
Very in-depth and so interesting..thank you for sharing this
I’m shocked!
I think I sort of knew much of what I read in this book, but seeing it all down in black and white with supporting evidence, stories and narrative really opened my eyes to this subject. I personally struggle with weight issues and now I realise it’s not all my fault. This book should be a must read for everyone and especially parents!
