Dr. Erica Rosen is puzzled when a young Chinese girl with blue eyes visits her San Francisco clinic. The girl's secretive mother, Ting, hints at illegal entry into the country. Erica later discovers Ting's son has an unusual mutation from a secret Chinese government gene-editing program. The Chinese government wants to murder Ting's son, so their secret program won’t be discovered. Erica travels to China to expose the program and rescue an infant Ting was forced to abandon, all while evading government surveillance.
