A woman kidnapped by bandits. A mercenary sent alone to rescue her. Time is running out, the odds are against him and he must play a dangerous game to survive...
High up in the fells, a mercenary called Valguard pits himself against a band of vicious thieves and seemingly impossible odds on a daring night-time raid on a remote, fortified stronghold to rescue a hostage. Meanwhile, his employer, The Duke, waits at the border for news of the mission. Will he outwit the ruthless group of over twenty bandits known as The Cutters? Or has his luck ran out and this time he has sent his friend to a very bloody death?
The first Valguard book and prologue to the forthcoming novel 'Ten of Swords'
Great start - looking forward to Ten of Swords!
Bit of trepidation initially. Game of Thrones and all that. My worries were unfounded. It's bloodier, rougher and funnier than I could have imagined - and with a twist or two.
If this is a prologue I'm looking forward to what's coming up!
And let's face it, at this price you're not exactly having to take a huge leap of faith.
Nice opener from Mr. Humphrey and it'd make a great TV series episode one.
Cracking Little Read
Wow, what a cracking story, the central character comes across as very realistic, the situations he finds himself in are believable. Really hope Mr Humphrey gets his finger out, so i can read his Ten of Swords book. Thoroughly recommended.
