Water. Weak start to a really good series

I took a few attempts at reading this book, once i got in to it it inly rook ne a few days to finish the whole series. I just needed to know how it would finish. I enjoyed them all and would say it was a good buy!.

Vapid, weak and confused.

Whilst the author shows some promise in her style, 'Water' is nonetheless a disappointing read. In addition to fragmented story arcs, one-dimensional characters and clichéd dialogue, the 'magic system' is poorly described and leaves the story with a very weak foundation.

The 'Seven' is a not-for-profit organisation of eco-warriors whose main purpose is to send recruits on 'missions' to convince companies into using recycled coffee cups and water bottles. As its name implies, 'Water' is one of the four cardinal elements and it is from these elements that the gifted eco-warriors draw their powers... except for most of them... we only meet one real 'Narina' -- a water-based pokė-eco-warrior (perhaps 1.5 if you include a poor Galapagos Islander called Juan) -- whilst the other characters draw their powers from places that the author neglects to describe.

On the top of the food chain is the Gaia who has affinity with all four elements. However the Gaia, incidentally the story's protagonist comes across as weak, deluded and utterly detestable for her flippancy; I dare say that this is more a reflection of the author's inexperience than a narrative device.

The other characters are entirely too transparent: a strong silent protector; the evil one; the old guy; and the female friend.

If you are looking for a good modern fantasy, look elsewhere.

Water

Wasn’t sure what to expect from this book but it was a very interesting view on the world’s problems with ecology issues and a fantasy possible solution. All mixed up with a bit of troubled romance and harsher rape issues with an unhinged protagonist.
