For years, rumors of the 'Marsh Girl' have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life - until the unthinkable happens.

A beautifully told story about an unusual character

A friend recommended this story, but it took me a while to get round to reading it. I am so glad I did. The central character is unusual and it took me a couple of chapters to get stuck into the story, but once I did, I thought it was beautifully told. The character’s love for the marsh and the nature it sustains comes through strongly, and I really felt engaged in her environment and the circumstances she faces. I would recommend it highly.

Beautiful…. What a wonderful story

I started this book and thought it’s not for me, the language was so different to the books I normally read.
But, after hearing friends read it and love it I thought maybe I should give it another go.
I’m so glad I did, it’s left me feeling all kinds of emotions, a story that gets a hold of you and you can’t let go.
By the end I was in tears and actually didn’t want it to end but it did and it couldn’t of ended more beautifully.
Best book I’ve read so far in the years I’ve been reading and highly recommend you read this too!!
