While They All Watched

He was the town hero. Now he’s the first victim.

Jack Castonguay was the embodiment of the American dream: charismatic, successful, and a star on the diamond. But in the small Michigan town of Roberta on the Lake, the dream has curdled. Jack has been beaten to death with his own baseball bat, and as his old high school teammates return from across the globe to mourn him, they realise they’ve been gathered for a different kind of ceremony.

Oscar and Clementine Daley fled their American lives for Australia years ago, but the news of Jack’s murder pulls them back into a community fractured by distrust and shadowed by a ruthless, meticulous killer. As the body count rises and the authorities flounder, the town is swarmed by podcasters and conspiracy theorists hungry for a headline. Stalked from within and desperate to survive, the Daleys must launch an unauthorised investigation into the heart of a town that has forgotten how to protect its own.
