The story begins with Savannahs return to the island of her birth after twenty-one years in England. When Savannah reaches her ancestral home, she is met by billowing black smoke. As if that werent enough, she discovered that the uncle who had abused her as a child, has threatened to kill her. As she struggles to come to terms with the issues that have plagued her life.
