Publisher Description
‘A poignant, practical and moving story of how to fix our broken land, this should be conservation's salvation; this should be its future; this is a new hope’ – Chris Packham
Winner of the Richard Jefferies Society / White Horse Book Shop Award for Nature Writing
In Wilding, Isabella Tree tells the story of the ‘Knepp experiment’, a pioneering rewilding project in West Sussex, using free-roaming grazing animals to create new habitats for wildlife.
Part gripping memoir, part fascinating account of the ecology of our countryside, Wilding is, above all, an inspiring story of hope.

Inspiring
Living on a very small family farm myself provides a strong urge to suddenly drop our tools and follow suit, however, we unfortunately are not in the position or have enough land to do so. This books is truly fascinating and has inspired my father and I to manage the woodland we have differently and provide a stable habitat for wildlife by simply leaving it to do what it wants, something previously we would not have followed fully.
Moreover, the book appeals greatly to many age groups and although it may not be the first choice for one of the younger generation- not that many read books now anyway- I personally ( aged 16) found it the most interesting book I have ever read and also rather easy to understand.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone including those not interested in nature and am hoping to visit knepp in the future.
Incredible
An incredible story of resolve and belief that wilding would work. To dig their heels in and never give up in their quest to give nature a chance, despite the bureaucratic hurdles and opposition to the contrary. Inspirational to the last, with an education on a bygone era of natural history. It's this kind of love and passion for nature that offers hope for the future for all our flora and fauna. I couldn't put this book down.
Amazing!
This inspirational book needs to be read by all to fully understand that nothing is greater or cleverer than nature. A truly thought provoking book that will make you change your whole outlook on our ‘countryside’ and demand change.
