APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
A really good domestic thriller preys on your worst fears while also keeping you entertained. In this deliciously twisted story, author Shari Lapena introduces us to new parents Anne and Marco, who are desperately in need of some adult time. So when their babysitter cancels on the night of their neighbors’ party, they decide to go anyway—after all, the little one’s asleep and they’ll be right next door. What follows is an adrenaline-fueled waking nightmare in which everyone’s imperfections cast them in a suspicious light. Marco’s dealing with money problems, Anne’s suffering from postpartum depression, and their neighbor Cynthia is awfully flirtatious. This harrowing story is written in the present tense, which lets narrator Kirsten Potter pull us into every terrifying moment as if it’s unfolding in real time. The tension is unbelievable, but we were so hooked we couldn’t stop listening.
