Reid first told the story of how Ilya and Shane got together in the book Heated Rivalry, and we certainly recommend it. But she does a fantastic job here of establishing the achingly romantic bond between these two, complete with intimate conversation, private jokes, and gorgeously sweet, subtle gestures. There’s such honesty and vulnerability to these characters—especially Ilya, who’s become the fan favourite of the entire Game Changers series—that we were positively yearning to see them find their way to the happiness they deserve. Cooper North brings a perfect balance of softness and humour to his narration, giving us a clear window into the relationship we’re wholeheartedly rooting for.
