Born Lucky

I went in search of my mother, and found, unexpectedly, something bigger in myself.

Lemn Sissay is seventeen, freshly out of the care system. No family, no furniture, no future. He’s recently recovered his birth name Lemn – and he’s figuring out who Lemn really is. Would finding his birth mother give him the answers he needed?

In this successor to the Number One Bestseller, My Name Is Why, Lemn Sissay describes how he survived a broken system, found his community in ‘80s Manchester - a city on the verge of its own breakthrough - and ultimately found his voice.

This is a portrait of a young man unwilling to give up.
