Publisher Description

Carmela is a work of fiction based on a true story. Carmela and Angelo were real people, living in Italy in the late 1800s. Abandoned on the steps of Monte Cassino, Carmela was raised by the monks and her beloved Father Carlo as well as the exceptionally stern Sister Maria. For the entirety of her short life, she had been aggressively shielded from the world around her and her own tragic history but as she grows a desire is unleashed inside her; a desire to understand and a desire to belong.
Angelo lived out of town on his parent's small holding where he worked long days for little tangible reward before risking his life making the journey in to Cassino to learn how to read and write. The story follows the pair through key years of their lives through love, loss, hope, murder and mystery as we learn just how closely entwined their lives really are. Flashbacks provide an insight in to the events that shaped the characters and the situation Carmela finds herself in. Will she ever uncover the secrets of her own past and when history threatens to repeat itself, who will come out victorious?
