Serena is not one for following rules. Her nonconformity doesn't win her any favors. As punishment, she's barred from society, thrown into the local asylum, simply known as The House. She's sad, lonely, and misses her old life. What she misses most is the opportunity to enjoy love and have her own family. She swears she's doomed to stay there, lost and forgotten.

But someone has been watching her at night when she sneaks away to a special clearing in the woods. She thinks she's alone when she does her ritual dance, wearing nothing and waving a scarf around her. Daren, an attendant on the "other" side of The House, vows he can take her into his hidden world of sensual pleasures and lavish comfort. When she decides to take Daren up on a special offer, her world is about to change in more ways than she bargained for.
