The year is 1914, and the world is holding its breath.

In a hidden Manhattan convent, Alice Bladewell has finally found peace, shepherding a flock of vampires toward redemption through faith and discipline.

When the Order of the Morning Dawn surfaces within the U.S. War Department, they present Alice with a brutal ultimatum: provide twelve vampire "assets" for the European front, or watch her mentor, Bishop Harkins, be destroyed by scandal.
