Eager to Love

From one of today’s most influential spiritual teachers, a compelling vision of the Franciscan tradition as a radical way of love

In Eager to Love, Richard Rohr uncovers the deeper, often overlooked vision at the heart of Franciscan spirituality, presenting it as a coherent and transformative way of life rooted in contemplation, simplicity, and profound relationality. Moving beyond familiar stories and romanticized images, Rohr explores the theological and mystical foundations of the Christian tradition—its embrace of incarnation, its integration of suffering and joy, and its insistence on the inherent goodness and unity of all creation.

Drawing on figures like Clare of Assisi, Bonaventure, and John Duns Scotus, Rohr reveals a spirituality that is at once ancient and urgently relevant: one that invites us to live from love rather than fear, participation rather than control, and wholeness rather than division.

Written in Rohr’s characteristic blend of depth and accessibility, Eager to Love offers not just insight, but a path that calls readers to rediscover the Gospel as a lived, embodied way of love.
