Publisher Description
Fra Angelico was among the pre-Renaissance painters of Florence to gain the most recognition. A monk of the Dominican order, he occupied a cell at St. Marks in Florence. Angelico contributed beautiful fresco paintings to the monastery walls. He painted exclusively religious subjects and used brilliant colors, especially blues. The artist was especially skilled at conveying motion like the flowing movements of clothing. This attribute and talent distinguished him from his medieval forebears. Pope Eugene invited Fra Angelico to Rome to paint the papal quarters there. He died while completing this project in 1455.
