Heart of the Baron, Book 1
Rebecca Hughes is not what you would call a lucky girl, at least in the conventional sense. Life started out quite normally for her she was the youngest daughter of a fabric merchant and a seamstress. In her youth she was loved, the family business prospered and even enjoyed patronage by the Ton.
All that changed after the fire. One strike of a match left young Rebecca a penniless orphan cast out upon the cold, harsh London streets. Barely able to comprehend the loss of her family let alone survive in such wilds a fellow pauper, a boy, befriends her. Thanks to his encouragement Rebecca finds work as a seamstress and maid of all work with Esther Brooks and her 4 ill-mannered children; a set of overly spoiled and demanding twin girls who are out in society plus a set of seven year old twin boys who find delight in torment and destruction.
It is in this environment that Esther demands that Rebecca thrive, while at the same time setting the poor girl a series of next to impossible tasks to accomplish. Failure to meet this mistress’s exacting standards means that Rebecca will find herself shipped off to the local factory- a thing that Rebecca dreads.
Read on to find out what happens to Rebecca- will she find a way out of her current predicament or will it be off to the factory for her?
