Kissing the Gunner's Daughter

Falsely accused of stealing, Midshipman George Ludlow was flogged and then put ashore in Antigua. Abandoned in a strange land with no money, no friends, and having to find his way back to England with no money to his name, George is obliged to beg for his supper. An old sailor looking for entertainment looks kindly on George and offers to buy him supper in exchange for his story. George has much to tell for in truth he was poorly treated on board the HMS Mediator under Captain Hamilton and his grim-faced boatswain Mr Tuttle. The two cruelly beat George whenever he did not meet their expectations. Yet, the real story takes place in the surgeon's cabin, where Dr Lyle, a man with a dark soul takes advantage of the young sailor, subjecting him to unendurable atrocities.

Will the old sailor take pity on George, or will he too take advantage of a vulnerable young man?
