Publisher Description

Introduction Decision-making capacity for consent to treatment embodies 4 abilities: to communicate a choice; to understand the relevant information; to appreciate the medical consequences of the situation; and to reason about treatment choices. (1,2) Impairment in decision-making capacity occurs frequently among patients with Alzheimer disease (AD). (3-5) Studies of the relationship between specific decision-making abilities and neuropsychological impairment in AD patients showed that treatment decisional abilities might be predicted by cognitive performance. (6-8) However, in patients with mild-to-moderate dementia such studies are few and limited.
