Cameron had been controlled by depression and anxiety for what had seemed like an eternity.  He'd almost given up hope that someone could love him as a man, especially when he struggled to love himself. Haunted by memories of schoolyard bullies and his failures as a man, Cameron is desperate for something to go right.
